About the venue
A restored 17th-century oak-framed barn on a 400-acre working farm near Rye, in the High Weald. It is hired dry and exclusively for 48 hours, seats 200 and has three licensed ceremony spots: the barn, an orchard gazebo and a meadow.
Clayton Farm presses its own apple juice and makes a craft cider called Starvecrow. Its 17th-century oak-framed barn, once used to store hay, has hosted weddings as The Cherry Barn since 2018.
The farm covers 400 acres in Peasmarsh, just outside Rye, within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It has been in the family for generations. Stephen took it over in 2010 and keeps a Romney flock of 550 ewes alongside the apple orchards.
The barn seats up to 200 guests, and the ceremony, meal, bar and dance floor all share one bright space. Couples can marry under the oak frames, under the lean-to, at an oak gazebo looking across the orchard to the North Downs, or out in the meadow.
Hire is dry and exclusive for 48 hours, so couples bring their own caterers, drinks, furniture and music. There is a commercial kitchen for the caterers and no corkage during the day. A fully stocked bar opens after the meal, or couples can supply evening drinks for a corkage fee.
The White Room works as a getting-ready space, a crèche or a green room for the band. Outside there is a patio with a fire pit, a garden and private parking where cars can stay overnight.
A large loft and a two-bedroom cottage on site sleep up to eight, and glamping companies can set up on the farm. The Norman church of St Peter and St Paul is about 500 metres away for a religious service.
