About the venue

An ancient oak barn and a Victorian Foster & Pearson glasshouse on a 30-acre Surrey estate near Ewhurst, restored by owners Lucinda and Sam Watkinson. The barn seats 120 for weddings and parties with no corkage, and the glasshouse seats 24 for private dinners.

Somersbury stands on land that Henry II owned in 1154. The house there now is believed to date from the 16th century.

Lucinda and Sam Watkinson, both from local farming families, restored the house, its ancient oak barn and a Victorian glasshouse with specialist local craftsmen. They held their first wedding in July 2022. Two years later, the venue won Best National Event Venue at the Muddy Stilettos Awards 2024.

The estate covers 30 acres of ancient oaks, wildflower meadows, apple orchards and willows around a pond. The owners have planted thousands of young trees and native hedgerows and scattered millions of wildflower seeds.

The barn has open beams, a high vaulted ceiling, a handmade clay roof and large timber-framed windows onto a wildflower meadow. It seats up to 120 at trestle tables with cross-back chairs, and has a stage and dance floor. A Maharaja tent with a rustic bar and a tipi sit alongside it.

The glasshouse is a Foster & Pearson design that seats 24 at trestle tables. It hosts private dinner parties, supper clubs and seasonal wreath-making workshops, and comes with heating, lighting and outdoor speakers.

Barn hire for 2027 and 2028 is £9,600 plus VAT on Fridays, weekends and bank holidays. Weekdays cost £8,000 plus VAT. The glasshouse alone costs £1,000 plus VAT. Catering and drinks are extra.

Menus come from local caterers, with options cooked over a wood fire, sharing platters or plated meals. Flowers come from Surrey florists using seasonal stems. There is no corkage, so couples can serve sparkling wine from the Surrey Hills if they like.

Dogs are welcome. At the venue's first winter wedding, a dog named Harry delivered the rings.
