About the venue
A Grade II listed manor house near Dover, first recorded in the Domesday Book, with a converted 1950s Dutch Barn that seats 200. Exclusive-use weddings, parties and corporate events use nine acres of gardens and five licensed ceremony spaces, and up to 28 guests can stay overnight.
Solton Manor's first recorded owner was Godric, a Saxon noble who held the land when William the Conqueror invaded. His name lives on in Godric's Garden, where couples marry under an oak-framed gazebo inside the ruins of an ancient church.
The manor appears in the Domesday Book of 1086 as a settlement of four households. Bishop Odo of Bayeux and William Peverel, Constable of Dover Castle, both held it. The house is Grade II listed, and it is said that a brother of Henry VIII once stayed here.
Today the family-owned estate in East Langdon, near Dover, is hired exclusively for weddings, parties and corporate events. Nine acres of gardens include a moat, an ornamental pond with a summer house, a woodland glade and a meadow.
The Dutch Barn is the main event space. It is a converted 1950s barn with full-length windows, a double-height ceiling and a draped marquee lining. It seats 200 for dinner, takes another 50 for the evening and has a stage, dance floor, bar and built-in sound system.
There are five licensed ceremony spaces. Godric's Garden and the new Finet's Woodland Glade each seat 150 outdoors. Indoors, couples can use the Dutch Barn, the Old Stables with its flint walls and three chandeliers, or the Manor House itself.
The Manor House sleeps up to 24 in ten bedrooms, with a Tudor Hall, an inglenook fireplace and a dining table for 30. Dovecote Cottage adds two bedrooms for four guests. There is a hot tub, a games room in the old bell tower, and a children's play area called Solton Fort.
The estate bell has been rehung above the getting-ready room, now called the Bell Tower Barn. It once marked the end of the working day. Catering is by partner Invicta Food Design.
