About the venue
One of the most distinctive and beautiful buildings in Britain: George IV's extravagant former royal palace in the heart of Brighton. Marry in the dazzling Music Room or the intimate Red Drawing Room, and celebrate in rooms not open to the public.
The Royal Pavilion is one of the most distinctive and beautiful buildings in Britain. A former royal palace built by George IV in the early 1800s to his extravagant and vibrant tastes, it sits in the very heart of Brighton and offers an unmatched setting for a wedding.
Two rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies. The magnificent Music Room, one of the palace's most astonishing State Rooms, seats up to 90 and will simply take your breath away; Rossini performed here in 1823, Oscar Wilde lectured and Charles Dickens gave readings. The elegant Red Drawing Room, seating up to 44, retains much of its original 1820s decoration, with dragon wallpaper and palm tree pillars, and has its own private entrance from the Regency Garden.
Receptions can be held even if the ceremony takes place elsewhere. The King William IV Room above, light and airy with hand-painted wallpaper and oriental lanterns, seats up to 60 or holds 80 standing, and the Banqueting Room and the King's Lawn host up to 150 standing. Catering comes from a choice of approved caterers.
Brighton & Hove Museums also offer conferences, meetings and proposal packages at the Royal Pavilion and their other historic venues.
