About the venue
Founded in AD 604, Rochester Cathedral is one of Kent's greatest historical treasures, beside the River Medway. Hire the 13th-century Crypt for dinners and receptions, the Ithamar Chapel for 75, or the Nave for up to 750.
Rochester Cathedral was founded in AD 604, making it more than 1,400 years old, and was rebuilt shortly after the Norman Conquest. One of Kent's greatest historical treasures, it stands in the heart of Rochester on the banks of the River Medway and welcomed a record 323,000 worshippers and visitors in 2025.
Its historic spaces are available for hire. The 13th-century Crypt hosts conferences, dinners and drinks receptions for up to 100 standing or 90 for a formal dinner, the Ithamar Chapel seats 75, and the magnificent Nave holds up to 750 theatre-style for concerts and large events.
Only a few weddings can be held each year, and couples need to show a significant connection to the Cathedral to be granted a special licence. Services of thanksgiving or blessing after a civil marriage, anniversary celebrations and the reaffirmation of vows are also possible for those with a strong connection. The Cathedral does not host wedding receptions.
A café operates in the medieval crypt. The Cathedral is a five-minute walk from Rochester station, and there are several public car parks within a few minutes' walk.
