About the venue
Grade I listed manor house near Gravesend, built in 1320 and home to the Edmeades family for 400 years, in 300 acres of Kent farmland. It is always hired exclusively. Ceremonies take 75 in the Drawing Room, and the garden marquee seats 120 for dinner and 200 in the evening. Ten guests can stay in Stable Cottage and three shepherd's huts.
The oak timbers in Nurstead Court's General's Room have stood for more than 700 years. The room dates from 1320 and was once the bedchamber of the Lord and Lady of the Manor. It now has a four-poster super king bed, William Morris 'Owl & Willow' wallpaper and its own private staircase. A night costs £250 with breakfast in the library, and couples can use it as a bridal suite.
Nurstead's history reaches back to the Saxon era, and it is recorded in the Domesday Book. The Court was built in 1320 and extended in 1830, and it is Grade I listed. It stands in 300 acres of Kent countryside near Meopham, and the Edmeades family have owned it for 400 years. Every booking is exclusive use.
Couples can marry on the side lawn, in the Regency Drawing Room for up to 75, or at St Mildred's, the family church at the end of the drive. Drinks are served from the 14th-century wood-panelled library, whose French windows open onto the lawn. The dining room holds the house bar and a grand piano. The ivory-panelled garden marquee seats 120 for a wedding breakfast and 200 in the evening, with a covered patio terrace and a permanent bar.
The three shepherd's huts in the meadow are called Flowers, Feathers and Ferns. They are named after the cyanotypes of Anna Atkins, an Edmeades ancestor and the first person to produce a photographically illustrated book. Each sleeps two, and Stable Cottage, the old coach house, sleeps four more. The in-house caterers have cooked at Nurstead since 2004. The house also runs a monthly Wine School and Gin Club, yoga, outdoor theatre and forest school.
