About the venue

Former Red Lyon pub near Henley and Marlow, reopened in 2016 as a ten-bedroom boutique hotel and named Best Small and Exclusive Property in the UK three times. Weddings and events use the glass-fronted Garden Pavilion, which seats 160 and holds 250 standing.

Hurley House began life as the Red Lyon pub, and turning it into a hotel took a 24-month refurbishment. Bassam Shlewet opened it in 2016 as an independent boutique hotel in the Berkshire countryside near Henley-on-Thames, Marlow and Maidenhead. The interiors include limited-edition artwork by Todd White.

The ten bedrooms have exposed beams, 1,000-thread-count linen and Lefroy Brooks fittings. The Deluxe Room also has its own patio. Breakfast is included, and the 2026 Condé Nast Johansens awards named it Best Breakfast in the UK. The same awards named Hurley House Best Small and Exclusive Property in the UK in 2019, 2023 and 2025.

The restaurant closed for rebranding on 1 June 2026 and is due to reopen later in the year. In the meantime the kitchen serves breakfast and pre-ordered platters to hotel guests, and private dining for groups of six or more. Its chefs specialise in Japanese and international cooking, and exclusive use includes an Omakase sushi bar.

Larger events take place in the Garden Pavilion, a permanent glass-fronted building beside the main house. It seats 160 for dinner, holds 250 standing and has a 180-inch LED video wall, a stage and Pioneer DJ equipment. The hotel is licensed for weddings, and parking takes 65 cars with four charging points.
