About the venue

Restored Georgian house on a 438-acre working estate in Hampshire, an hour from London, with its own organic farm and Guernsey herd. Events use the Assembly Room, a working Glass House, the Old Stables and a Screening Room, and weddings take in the house and grounds.

Heckfield Place keeps a herd of organic Guernsey cows, and guests can visit them at the milking parlour on a farm tour. Home Farm, the biodynamic Market Garden and the orchards supply much of what the kitchens cook, and the farm works to the biodynamic calendar. Marle, the main restaurant, holds a Green Michelin star. Hearth, in the old estate stables, cooks over an open fire.

The house at the centre of the 438-acre estate is Georgian, restored with contemporary interiors, and it is an hour from London. Its pleasure grounds were first marked out in the 1820s and have been restored along with the walled gardens, terraces and lawns. There are two lakes, and the Lower Lake is used for wild swimming and rowing. Trees planted by the horticulturist William Wildsmith still stand in the woods and arboretum.

Bedrooms come in six types in the house, off its corridors and in the grounds. The most private is the Long Room, an apartment with vaulted ceilings, a kitchen, a terrace and a balcony. Church Lodge and Keeper's Cottage stand on the edge of the Upper Walled Garden. The Bothy by Wildsmith covers 17,000 square feet, with treatment rooms, thermal therapies and an 18-metre pool.

For events, the Assembly Room has moveable walls and looks onto the gardens, with the Card Room next door for registration or drinks. The Dining Room has one long communal table. The Glass House in the walled gardens is still a working part of the estate but can be dressed for private gatherings. A Screening Room with cinema sound sits beside the cellar and its bar.
