About the venue
Tudor house near Egham dating from 1550, with a Grade II listed Tithe Barn, a Saxon moat and a sundial the hotel says was a gift from Sir Francis Drake. Weddings for 160, or 250 in the evening, meeting rooms for up to 120, 56 bedrooms and the Michelin-starred Tudor Pass.
The plaster ceiling of the Tapestry Suite at Great Fosters carries the badge of the Percy family, including a collared and chained silver boar. Henry Percy courted Anne Boleyn before Henry VIII did, and the hotel says the room was her private lounge. The main house dates from 1550. Around 1910 the architects W.H. Romaine-Walker and G.H. Jenkins redeveloped it, and in 1912 they imported the Italian quattrocento doors that now hang in the Italian Suite.
More than 50 acres of gardens surround the red-brick house. There are listed parterres, a fountain, a Saxon moat and a Japanese bridge, along with a sundial the hotel says Sir Francis Drake gave to the estate. The Yew Rooms are open-air spaces screened by ancient yew hedges. Nearby is The View, a raised garden climbed by way of a mound.
Weddings centre on the Orangery and the Tithe Barn, which has vaulted oak beams, a minstrels' gallery and an open fire. Ceremonies for up to 160 take place in the Orangery or on the Archery Lawn, and the barn seats 160 for the wedding breakfast. With the Orangery and Painted Hall Bar added, the evening can grow to 250. Meetings use the Coach House rooms, the Mowbray, the Orangery and the barn, the largest holding 120 theatre-style.
The 56 bedrooms and suites are spread across the main house, The Cloisters, The Coach House and the Dower House. The Tudor Pass has seven tables and a Michelin star, and since July 2025 its kitchen has been run by Stefano Di Giosia, formerly of The Fat Duck. The Estate Grill, with two AA rosettes, handles more relaxed meals. In summer the art deco heated pool and hot tub open, and parking and EV charging are free.
