About the venue
Grade II listed Victorian mansion hotel in 80 acres between Wokingham and Bracknell, built for the 4th Marquess of Downshire around 1860. Licensed ceremonies for 110 in the mansion, weddings and conferences for up to 500 in the King Suite, and 93 bedrooms.
Easthampstead Park's meeting rooms take their names from the house's past: Trumbull, Sandys, Hill and Pope. Charles I granted the estate to William Trumbull in 1629. A later Sir William Trumbull counted the poet Alexander Pope, who lived nearby at Binfield, among his friends and visitors.
Through Mary Sandys, born here in 1764, the estate passed by marriage to the Hill family, Marquesses of Downshire. The present mansion was built around 1860 for the 4th Marquess, a red-brick house in Jacobean style with Bath stone dressings. Under the 6th Marquess the estate had its own miniature steam railway. The future Edward VII visited in 1885.
The family's papers, the Trumbull Papers, were sent to Sotheby's in 1989 with an estimate of about £2.5 million. The sale was called off and they went to the British Library. St Paul's School moved here from Hammersmith during the Second World War, and a fire in 1947 destroyed much of the roof. The house then spent decades as a teacher training college.
Today it is a four-star hotel with 93 bedrooms across the Mansion House and the newer Hepburn House. The purpose-built King Suite stands in the grounds and handles the largest events. There is a cocktail bar, afternoon tea and a gym, with free parking and EV charging. The M4 and M3 are nearby, and Bracknell and Wokingham stations are a short taxi ride away.
