About the venue

Family-run lakeside venue in the South Downs National Park near Petworth, with four lakes across 12 acres. A licensed wooden lodge and three licensed lakeside spots for ceremonies, a level marquee pitch for receptions, and private fishing days for companies.

Fireworks are banned at Duncton Mill because of the fish. The site says its lakes and farm hold a large quantity of them.

The lakes spread across 12 acres in the South Downs National Park, just outside Petworth. Each has its own character, and guests can roam the whole site on the day.

A handcrafted wooden lodge on the water is licensed for legal ceremonies. Three outdoor areas around the lakes hold licences too.

Receptions take place in a marquee on a level pitch beside the water. Guests can look across the lake from inside the tent or sit out on the decking with a drink. A marquee package from a local supplier is available, or couples can arrange their own.

Couples choose any caterer, photographer, florist or entertainment they like. Unlike many venues, Duncton Mill charges nothing beyond the hire fee.

The venue holds no alcohol or live music licence, so a Temporary Event Notice is needed, and the team helps with it. Mains electricity can be hired for an extra charge.

Hire for 2027 starts at £3,000, or £3,400 with electricity. That includes two full days to set up beforehand and half a day to clear away. A micro wedding with three hours for the ceremony and photos costs £800.

Music stops at 11.30pm and guests leave by 12.30am. There is no overnight stay on site, but local hotels and campsites are close by.

Outside weddings, the lakes host birthdays, christenings, bar mitzvahs and family gatherings. Companies hire a lake for private fishing days and away days with tackle, a ghillie and a chef.
