About the venue

Family-owned golf and country club at Pease Pottage near Crawley, rebuilt after a 2018 fire. Three function rooms for 150 at a wedding breakfast and 200 in the evening, licensed ceremonies indoors or on a lawn, 26 bedrooms, seven lodges and a health club.

When Cottesmore opened in April 1975, membership cost £32.50 a year. By July, 600 golfers had signed up.

A father and son built the course on their family farm at Pease Pottage, near Crawley. The family later added a second course, hotel rooms, a health club and function rooms, and still owns the club today.

In June 2018 a fire destroyed almost two-thirds of the original main building. The rebuilt clubhouse and hotel reopened in April 2020.

The clubhouse now holds three linked function rooms, the Challis Suite, Buchan Suite and Barn Room. Together they seat 150 for a wedding breakfast and take 200 in the evening. Antler chandeliers hang from the beams, a marble-topped bar anchors the space, and Bose and SONOS systems handle the sound.

Floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a French-style courtyard with a fountain. Civil ceremonies take place in the oak-beamed Barn Room or on a ceremony lawn in a tree-lined glade.

Weddings come in three all-inclusive packages, cooked in the club's own kitchens. Companies use the same rooms for conferences and pitches, and families book them for anniversaries and milestone birthdays.

The hotel has 26 en-suite bedrooms with Hypnos mattresses, from £159 for a double with breakfast. Seven two-bedroom self-catering lodges sit in the grounds.

Guests can use the health club, which has a pool, gym, jacuzzi and sauna. There is also a beauty salon, padel and tennis courts, and the 18-hole Griffin and nine-hole Phoenix courses.

The oak-beamed Phoenix Bar & Restaurant looks over the Griffin course. Cottesmore holds Carbon Neutral Accreditation and runs on renewable energy.
