About the venue

A 1,000-year-old farmstead in Witney with a 13th-century Manor House and two licensed 18th-century barns, used as Yew Tree Farm in Downton Abbey. The Wheat Barn seats 200, both barns are dry hire, and the whole 17-acre site is the couple's from 5pm.

Wadard, lord of the manor of Cogges in the Domesday Book of 1086, appears on the Bayeux Tapestry as a knight on horseback. The farmstead has more than 1,000 years of history and is now a Scheduled Ancient Monument, run by the Cogges Heritage Trust, an independent charity.

The Manor House dates from the 13th century, and the farm buildings are Grade II listed and 18th-century. Henry VIII gave the land to Thomas Pope, who founded Trinity College, Oxford. The Mawle family lived here until 1974.

Film crews know it well. The Manor House kitchen and grounds became Yew Tree Farm in series 4 to 6 of Downton Abbey, and the house also appears in Colette and Arthur & George.

Weddings use the adjoining Wheat and Barley barns, both licensed for ceremonies. Open both doors of the Wheat Barn and a draught runs through it, which once blew the chaff from threshed grain. It seats 200 banqueting style or about 130 at round tables, and more than 250 for a ceremony. The Barley Barn seats 140 for a ceremony.

Hire is dry and runs over three days, with only one barn wedding each weekend. Between 5pm and midnight the whole 17-acre site belongs to the couple, including the Walled Garden, the Manor House lawn and the orchard. There are no bedrooms on site, but Witney town centre is a ten-minute walk.

Barn hire for 2026 starts at £3,250 midweek and £4,850 at weekends in April and October. Holding the ceremony on site costs nothing extra.
