Cissbury Barns

About the venue

Restored early 19th-century flint barns on a family estate in the South Downs near Findon, hired exclusively. Ceremonies for 120 in the East Barn or the licensed woodland Glade, dinner for 120 in the West Barn, 200 in the evening, no corkage and three places to stay.

Napoleonic prisoners built the flint barns at Cissbury in the early 19th century, as lambing yards for the estate's sheep. They stayed in farm use for almost 200 years.

The Wyatt family has owned the Cissbury Estate since the late 18th century. Geoffrey and Etta Wyatt moved here in 2012, and when traditional farming stopped paying they set about giving the barns a new use. Approval came in 2016, and the first wedding followed later that year.

A private drive climbs through fields and woodland in the South Downs National Park to reach them. The house is still the family's home. Couples meet their registrars there and can take photographs on the staircase.

Ceremonies take place in the East Barn for up to 120, or outdoors in The Glade, a licensed woodland clearing with a pergola. Drinks follow in brick and flint walled gardens, reached through a secret garden or a courtyard with a pétanque court. The West Barn seats 120 for dinner, and 200 come for the evening.

Seven caterers are on the approved list for the wedding breakfast, and couples can bring in street food for the evening. There is no corkage between the ceremony and the end of the meal. The Cissbury Bar charges pub prices and has a barista coffee machine.

Three places to stay sit on the estate. The North Wing apartment is in the main house, The Lodge sleeps six, and The Chapel sleeps four.
