About the venue
Grade II* historic house and museum in Chiddingstone, Kent, closed to the public for weddings. Four licensed ceremony spaces include the award-winning Victorian Orangery. The Tudor Great Hall seats 80, evening receptions take 150, and South Lawn marquees take up to 600.
Strictly speaking, the wedding licence at Chiddingstone Castle's Orangery belongs to its roof. The Victorian stone building was given a chestnut and oak gridshell roof, which won a Best Use of British Timber award in 2007.
The castle itself is a Grade II* listed historic house and museum in the village of Chiddingstone. Its rooms hold Stuart and Jacobite, Buddhist and Ancient Egyptian collections. Visitors can use the tea room and the gift shop in the tower, except when the castle is closed for a private event.
On wedding days the castle and grounds close to the public. Four spaces are licensed for ceremonies: the Orangery, the South Lawn, the Great Hall and the White Rose Room. Couples can also lead guests through the village gates to St Mary's church on the Tudor high street.
The oak-panelled Great Hall seats 80 for the wedding breakfast, and evening receptions take 150. Marquees on the South Lawn raise the total to 600. Recommended caterers design the menus, and dry hire of drinks is allowed.
Outside are woodland walks, a fishing lake and views across the Weald. Private functions run all year, with prices from £55 a head for at least 20 guests and exclusive hire from £1,600.
