About the venue

Nineteenth-century house on the River Itchen in central Winchester, owned by the Steel family for four generations. Hired exclusively for weddings and ceremonies of 20 to 100 guests and for meetings and conferences, with a riverside deck and walled garden.

A private tributary of the River Itchen flows directly beneath the floor of the Garden Room at Chesil House. Outside, a small bridge crosses the same stream in the walled garden.

The 19th-century house stands on the riverbank in the middle of historic Winchester. The Steel family has owned and lived in it for four generations.

Chesil House is always hired as a whole, so each event has the rooms, garden and deck to itself. The main space is the Chesil Suite, three naturally lit rooms that open up for 20 to 100 guests.

The smaller Garden Room has a large picture window over the lawn and the tributary. It works as an intimate ceremony room, a boardroom for six to 14 or a bridal preparation room on a wedding day.

Off the River View Room, a deck with glass balustrades looks straight over the Itchen. Drinks and canapés are served here after ceremonies.

The Chesil Suite, Garden Room and River View Room all have built-in audio-visual equipment and air conditioning. Cameras in the suite can stream a ceremony online for absent friends and record it as a keepsake.

Food comes from the award-winning resident caterers, The Little Kitchen Company. Menus run through canapés, buffets and three-course seated meals.

The house also holds funeral and thanksgiving services through Richard Steel & Partners, the family's funeral directors.

The Chesil Street multi-storey car park is directly opposite. Winchester station is a 15-minute walk away.
