About the venue
The Mountbatten family's estate at Romsey, with 4.5km of the River Test and a 135-acre parkland that has staged concerts by Elton John and Lionel Richie. It hosts civil and celebrant-led ceremonies, corporate events and filming.
Fly fishing as it is practised today was developed on the River Test by Frederick Halford. Four and a half kilometres of the river run through Broadlands.
The house has been home to the Earl and Countess Mountbatten of Burma and their family since 1979. It is still lived in, and its ground floor opens for guided tours for a few weeks each summer.
Around it, the estate is a working business, with farmland, woodland and over 140 rented homes. It is also one of Hampshire's main outdoor event sites.
The Parkland is a 135-acre greenfield venue, flat and well drained, with parking for 6,000 cars. It has five vehicle entrances, underground fibre for Wi-Fi and grass large enough for helicopters to land. Elton John, Simply Red and Westlife have all played concerts here. More recently, Lionel Richie and Nile Rodgers with CHIC performed in 2023.
Smaller groups use the Orangery, which has hosted corporate team days. The estate also holds civil ceremonies and celebrant-led events.
Film crews and photographers can work across walled gardens, woodland, old farm buildings and the riverbank. Romsey is within walking distance, with a railway station, and the M27 and M3 are close.
